Teaching

Joan has taught calligraphy and related classes for over 20 years around the country - at international lettering arts conferences, for calligraphy guilds,  galleries, community colleges, and small groups. These are a few of the workshops currently available, ask if you don't see what you are looking for.

Joan's Teaching Policies and Fees

Costs for guild workshops include lowest reasonable airfare from St. Louis Missouri plus $45 towards getting to/from the airport (the nearest airport is Columbia MO but it never has connections to cheap flights)

In general, teaching is $375 per day except for single-day classes which run $400 (usually takes as much prep time, and of course as much travel time as longer classes but am willing to teach longer hours) Extra-long days, such as to fit a three-day class into two,  may also cost more, but half-days are FREE if done so I can fly out on Saturday evening. I do not teach on Sundays but many guilds have had great success mid-week or with workshops that go Thursday-Sat - sometimes Thurs. 3-9 for instance, or on Friday holidays. Be flexible and have fun! I'm happy to stay with guild members (mild allergies make no pets a plus) and will do whatever helps make a workshop successful for your group - just let me know.

Casting and canvas classes require a local address to ship clay or canvas to, canvas class needs a couple of willing helpers to cut lots of canvas the evening before class.
